Day 6

The day started with the drill session. It took a while to get ready for the day but we finally did and then proceed to eat a  sumptuous breakfast.

Breakout session was up next, we were divided into two groups, boys separately, girls separately. The campers discussed intimately with the mentors on issues bothering them as teenagers. Ideas were shared and feelings were bared.

We had another breakout session and this time the girls and boys were together.

Skills acquisition was next, we concluded our trainings in readiness for presentation at the Variety night.

Lunch was good.

On the Journey of Guided Learning, Mr Alex Goma, shedding light into our theme for this year, said,

* Nature has made us different. We all have different DNA and made different to meet the divergent needs of people.

* It’s the quest for order in society that tries to condition us to become one.

* Divergent means being yourself with purpose. Life is about choices. We make better choices if we decide based on our purpose rather than our circumstances.

* It takes courage to find yourself and be the best you can be. Faith and knowledge conquer fear and build courage.

* Humility will help you manage success and tolerance daily.

* Build self control to manage your success and character.

* Persistence helps you to build resilience which is critical for sustained success.

Adventure as always was fun, each team was asked to search for treasures which had been hidden before.

Sport session for AYC 2017 ended on a good note.

Dinner was delicious, we wish this camp wouldn’t end. It was  a colourful Variety night with participants donning their traditional attires. There was an Exhibition for all the skills acquired in AYC 2017, prizes were also given. We had barbecue chicken and drinks while souvenirs from PAXO Pharmaceuticals was also distributed. Different games were played and as always, there was Music by AYC’s very own DJ Xpressit..

It was a Divergent Party.

See you at AYC ’18 ” I AM INGENIOUS”

Day 4

So far so good. What a wonderful time we’ve been having at this year’s camp. Although the activities can be sometimes exhausting, the campers cannot afford to miss any of them and keep looking forward to the next session.

Inspite of the weather, the day started well with the drill session which was quite interesting. The breakfast was a delicious one.

Team meeting was interactive as usual, plans were made for the drama competition for the night.

During the general session, Champ Rotimi Adeaga talked about mindset, using its growth and characteristics as the focus, breaking it into:
*Intelligence of the mind*

*Main concern of the mind*

*Efforts of the mind*

*Challenges of the mind*

*Feedback from the mind*

*Mistakes of the mind*

The breakout session came up next, and it went well. It was an impactful time. God bless our facilitators for giving their time to be a part of this life changing journey.

The skill acquisition classes continued and the campers eagerly participated, practicing what they have learnt in their different skills.

Lunch was good. Thumbs up to the Kitchen folks!

Mrs Salewa Aboderin took us on the journey of guided learning. She explained how “repetition is the law of deep and lasting impression” and why what you choose to do should “start now”.

Thereafter, Mr. Toyin Pinheiro SAN taught us the essentials that makes us who we are which include honesty, integrity, and humility.

Adventure session was so interactive and tasking with a lot for the campers to learn.

Excited campers were seen every where on the field for the sport session, we had a swell time.

Dinner was great, trust our kitchen crew.

The drama night was a ‘wawu’ something, permit me to use that word. We had in our midst the popular, handsome, nollywood actor, Deyemi Okanlawon. He said amongst many other thought-provoking things, that “in order for you to pursue your passion, you have to fulfil your responsibility”. He also made the children know that you can do and be more than one thing but you have to do it one after the other and be diligent at it. He was greatly impressed by the drama presentation from the teams as they demonstrated through their skits what being divergent meant to them. The campers were so elated. We had an eventful and unforgettable evening.

Day 3

Setting the Stage

#AYC2017 has begun. 5 years running, we are about to be#TheDivergent. It’s a gathering of teenagers who are on the path to being DIFFERENT in their actions and thoughts.

How do we say we are divergent when we are not different, our differences doesn’t show that we are weak or being cowardly, instead, it’s a show of distinctiveness in thought, act and vision.

Though we are not created equal or born light- or dark-skinned to parents of education or parents without access to education, and we grow up short or tall, slender or stocky we must refuse to stayed glued to our circumstances but instead  use them as catalyst for a greater and better tomorrow.

that’s why everyone who is attending  AYC ’17 (mentors inclusive) are being prepared for the transformation which will occur in the nearest future

Welcome to AYC 2017

The Tales of the Divergent

Do not be quick to write us off because we do not follow crowds; but one thing we promise, you will look us up in history as being unique and different because we are the DIVERGENTS.

First we had to know “we have it in us” and be “Aware” of our capabilities; then we moved from being awakened to being courageous… this is our story for we are the “DIVERGENTS”.

We are young, creative and passionate. We are always ready for challenges of life as we have passed through the fire to emerge as purified gold. We are claiming our rightful place in life and nurtured by great champions at Activate Youth Camp.

We believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives us to stand up for each another, and lead the way even when everyone doubts us. Like Veronica Roth posits, for us now, “becoming fearless isn’t the point; that’s impossible. It’s learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it”; this we learned on our journey to being “Courageous”.

Our first instinct is to push ourselves to our break point, just to see how hard our goal is. The point you think we will break, we become stronger and last longer. We have no respect for the feeble or fearful as our goal is bigger even than our imaginations leading us to surpass even places you still dream of attaining.

2017 is key year for us as it marks a milestone in our journey. A milestone of diligence, of resilience and once again we take our take our creed: “We will speak right, act right, we will think right, think fast, talk right, walk right, act right and live right because we are Champions, thank you Lord for perfecting all that concern us”… This is our story.
